Founded in 1471, they constitute the  oldest  public collection in the world.Today they provide a wonderful introduction to Classical sculpture. The collection is housed in Palazzo Nuovo and Palazzo dei Conservatori. Here are fragments of a colossal seated statue of Constantine the Great, Reliefs representing the provinces subject to Rome, the bronze head of Michelangelo, the famous Shewolf and the twins, the huge equestrian statue of the emperor Marco Aurelio.The itinerary through the Museums includes a visit to the Tabularium, a magnificent ancient Roman building which provides an unsurpassed view of the Roman Forum.
