Cerveteri( 40 km from Rome and 30 km from the harbour of Civitavecchia) was founded around 3000 years ago. The Etruscan Necropolis of Banditaccia was inscribed in the Unesco World Heritage list in 2004. It constitutes an exceptional and unique testimony to the ancient Etruscan civilisation,The only type of urban civilisation pre-roman Italy’.The several necropolis  cover an area of about 450 hectares (over 1000 acres). The Necropoli , with their monumental tombs sculpted in the local volcanic rock, which are still perfectly preserved, are our main source of information about the Etruscan culture.
